Karen has served as the Executive Director of the local affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI Austin) for the last 4 years. She gets excited seeing the small but meaningful ways the conversation about mental health is changing in our community. Even thought mental illness impacts 1 in 5 people, it’s still a topic most people whisper about. Karen often shares her family’s story to inspire and encourage others to do the same and firmly believes storytelling is one of the most powerful ways to diminish the shame that keeps people from accessing mental health help.
Karen will share her story of cultivating a legacy of laughter in her piece, The Day the Bubble Burst.
